Tame Impala Unleash onto Brooklyn at Coco 66
Wednesday night Tame Impala played their very first NYC gig at Greenpoint’s Coco 66. They didnt do much to put on a show, but a production was totally unnecessary as the raw passion and talent were completely entrancing to watch unfold onstage. Music fans sweated their faces off at this invite-only gig, including MGMT‘s (whom the band recently supported on tour) Andrew Wells VanWyngarden.
Tame Impala performed barefoot barely even acknowledging the audience who were intensely bobbing along as Coco 66’s awesome light system swirled around, enhancing the already psychedelic vibe in the air. Andrew VW joined the band onstage for an encore, gracefully facing away from the crowd as to not draw attention away from the show.
It’s no wonder this gang of 4 Australian 20-somethings have garnered countless amount of attention for their debut album Innerspeaker, and rightfully so! After the show I jetted over to Union Pool for The Rapture’s “secret show” which was completely packed and sold out, but we enjoyed listening by the door. Definitely a great night of music in Brooklyn.
Purchase Innerspeaker via Modular Records HERE and be sure to track the band’s upcoming gigs via MySpace.

the lead guitarist made me laugh so much… he certainly practices his stage moves and hair flicks in the mirror!
