GAYNGS and Glasser at Music Hall of Williamsburg

Justin Vernon performing with GAYNGS 10.410
It was a rainy Monday night when GAYNGS and Glasser played Music Hall of Williamsburg, a much-delayed set time due to issues at the box office that left fans lined up outside of the venue in the rain (myself included.) Glasser opened with an entrancing set that showcased her haunting vocals (which at times sounds like a cross between Bat For Lashes and Chairlift) over escalating bass, drum machines and laptop samples. The night before Glasser joined GAYNGS onstage for a cover of Sade’s By Your Side but not this time around (probably due to time constraints.)
GAYNGS, the megaband that features Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and members of Solid Gold, Bon Iver, The Rosebuds, Megafaun and more were definitely an entertaining live band. I described their live set to a friend as sounding like a wedding band, however it somehow works in a tongue in cheek sort of way (autotune banter between songs was highly notable.)
It’s a far cry from the seriousness of Bon Iver, however it’s cool to see a less intense side of Justin Vernon and Co. The band closed their set on a high note with George Michael’s One More Try before sending us out into the night.
