Artist Spotlight: Howler

After a successful jaunt of New York City (5 gigs in 5 days to be exact) in promotion of their Rough Trade debut album America Give Up, Minneapolis’s Howler have launched forth into their very first headlining world tour. I caught the band’s gig at Pianos, which turned out to be a huge draw (more so than the headlining act!) Definitely a band to look out for.

Howler’s first single Back of Your Neck is available as a free download, and you can watch the video below. See Howler Live, Like them, Follow them, and Purchase America Give Up.

New Feist Music Video “The Bad In Each Other” + 2012 US Tour Dates

photo by Ryan Barkan of Brooklyn Vegan

This past Sunday I spent the afternoon pleasantly revisiting Feist‘s 2011 album Metals [see: Best Albums of 2011] as well as her 1999 debut Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down). In my opinion, both albums have somehow been overlooked, do yourself a favor and snatch those up if haven’t already [purchase: Metals and Monarch].

Feist also announced the May 5th gig at Radio City Music Hall last week in addition to her 2 slots at Coachella. These are her only scheduled US tour dates at the moment so get your credit cards ready when tickets go on sale this Saturday, February 5th. Last November I was lucky enough to catch Feist’s first stop on the Metals Tour at BAM Opera House, and it was truly a magical night.

New M.I.A. Track “Bad Girls” + New Album News!

Bad Girls was released this morning in its entirety via Pitchfork where they briefly mention the release of M.I.A.‘s fourth studio album in summer 2012. Further “research” brought me to M.I.A.’s wikipedia page which included the following information:

Her fourth studio album, recorded across the world with different collaborators, is due for release on Mercury Records in summer 2012. M.I.A.’s next single, “Bad Girls” taken from her Vicki Leekx mixtape, premiered on January 30, 2012, will be released globally the following day and a music video directed by Gavras for the song is set to be released on 3 February, 2012.

AND, don’t forget that her song with Madonna and Nicki Minaj Give Me All Your Luvin’ premieres on Thursday, February 2nd during American Idol, just days before the Superbowl performance! It’s gonna be a great summer kids! Stream Bad Girls below (which includes a new verse) along with M.I.A.’s entire discography over at Soundcloud:

Update: M.I.A. confirmed her appearance to the press on Zane Lowe’s show tonight, along with the following:

“Yes, I’m going to the Super Bowl… I’m gonna be performing with Madonna and Nicki Minaj… If you’re gonna go to the Super Bowl, you might as well go with America’s biggest female icons.”

During the interview, MIA also spoke about her next solo album, saying that she is working on it with “European producers” and that she wants it to be released in the summer. “I want it to be a summer thing”, she said, “because it’s a summer record.”

‘Bad Girls’ is the first track to be taken from the singer’s as yet untitled fourth album. It is MIA’s first album for new label Mercury Records after she left XL Recordings at the completion of her contract. MIA’s fourth album, which is the follow-up to her 2010 record ‘Maya’, is rumoured to feature contributions from Swizz Beatz, Cataracs and Chris Brown.
