I took a break mid-last week after working rigorously to prepare Tastes Like Caramel for a makeover and migration to our very own server. Unfortunately the music industry will not wait for me so I’m taking the opportunity to compile all the important things that happened since my last post on 1/12 up until today. My heart goes out to Haiti, be sure to help out in any form possible.

M.I.A.‘s New Song Uncovered as a New York Times Diss
- The Day after I posted the M.I.A. tweeted music video, Fader did some investigation to reveal that the song (which is actually called Space Odyssey) is a protest in response to The New York Times naming Sri Lanka one of the best vacation destinations for 2010.

Peter Bjorn and John + Special Guests at Webster Hall

Last week I caught my favorite Swedish pop band, Peter Bjorn and John‘s show at Webster Hall. PBJ hit the stage with an all-star cast that included El Perro Del Mar, Spank Rock, U-N-I, Matt Sweeney and Andrew WK in what felt like a Monday night variety show!

The onstage collaborations were great but the duet with El Perro Del Mar for Young Folks was the highlight of the set as well as Andrew WK’s puzzling interpretive dancing. My only complaint was the omission of Up Against The Wall, one of my all-time favorite songs by the band.

The afterparty at Bowery Electric included a Japanese band called The Suzan, chosen by Bjorn as a surprise for his bandmates. The Suzan performed interesting covers of PB&J songs and in the end I got my fix of Up Against the Wall in an unexpected form.

Peter Bjorn and John are back in town this Monday with El Perro Del Mar at Webster Hall. We caught PBJ for the first time at The Music Hall of Williamsburg back in April and were smitten by their electrifying pop stage presence.

This time around they’re joined with fellow Swedish indie-popper Sarah Assbring aka El Perro Del Mar for what will be a solid Monday night set, don’t miss out!
