The Drums have released the video for the first single Money from their upcoming album Portamento (out September 12th in the UK). Tracklisting and video for Money below.

Lead singer Jonathan Pierce recently told NME : “Now we have an audience, we are taking into consideration the fact that we will be heard. That wasn’t the case at the time of the first record. I can’t see myself writing another song about the ocean or the beach. That’s why we’ve called the new album ‘Portamento‘ – it signifies going from one point to another.”

#5 I’ve been taking it easy the last few weeks prepping for SXSW and recovering from getting my tonsils removed [read: tonsillectomy] so regular blogging has unfortunately been delayed. But like a big bowl of my mother’s chicken soup, music has been a great comfort food. Check out what’s been brewing me lately in today’s edition of Tasty Tunes, Bon Appetit!

If you know anything about me, you know that I have an extreme soft spot for Natasha Kahn. Last week Bat For Lashes supported the Thom Yorke side project Atoms for Peace at the De La War Pavillion in the UK, an awesome performance that included covers of The Cure, Peter Gabriel and Radiohead! Last week I caught The Drums stand-in for The Ting Tings at the Paper Magazine Nightlife Awards to an unsuspecting crowd, successfully winning over a new slew of fans. This morning the band premiered a new video for the emo-pop track I Felt Stupid, check the band work it out in the clip below. The Drums return to New York on January 13 at Bowery Ballroom with Surfer Blood but until then check out my review of their gig at Mercury Lounge this past fall HERE.

I’ve been dancing around my apartment to The Drums all summer, especially after catching their gig with Ebony Bones at Bowery Ballroom. Since that show in July, the duo has since expanded their live band and released a brand new EP called Summertime!

After seeing Jennifer’s Body (a must!!) we jetted downtown to Mercury Lounge to catch the band’s 10PM set on Tuesday night. The short and sweet set included current single I Felt So Stupid, Let’s Go Surfing, Me and the Moon and others from the new EP.

Next up the band flies across the Atlantic to play some important gigs including Reykjavik’s Iceland Airwaves, 2 Manchester gigs and 2 London gigs including Koko for Club NME. Be sure to catch the band when they’re in town if you’re up for a night of great catchy pop music delivered most enthusiastically.

Show Your Bones: Ebony Bones + The Drums Smash Bowery Ballroom

On Wednesday night Ebony Bones brought the Bones of My Bones Tour to New York’s Bowery Ballroom in support of the upcoming release of her debut LP. She brought along local Brooklyn bands Ninjasonik and The Drums along for a night oozing of highly animated energy!

We’ve had The Drums eclectic tunes on rotation here so we were really looking forward to seeing the translation from MP3 to stage. The Drums consist of former Elkland singer Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham of Flashlight Party, as well as a full band and back-up singers that accompany their live set.

The Drums formed with the intent to “Make pure pop songs okay again,” and in my opinion they are on their way to accomplish this goal. I thoroughly enjoyed their live set that kept the excitement, passion and graciousness on a high scale. Everyone onstage looked like they were having a great time, much like ourselves.

Ebony Bones took the stage after 11PM, making quite the entrance following her highly-stylized stage companions (see pictures below.) The crowd Ms. Bones pulled it baffled me. Ranging from Brits, pierced boys kissing each other, and people who seemed to be up past their bedtime. Ebony Bones’ overall message of creating a sense of unity was successful which was best noted in the audience’s synchronized dance routine.

Ebony Bones’ debut Bone of My Bones was released in the UK on June 30th and will see a US release date soon. The Drums’ Summertime EP will be released on September 15th with a gig at Mercury Lounge following the release on September 22nd.

Gig Spotlight: Ebony Bones + The Drums at Bowery Ballroom

South London’s Ebony Bones aka Ebony Thomas is gearing up to hit stateside stages for the first time since SXSW! Ebony is back to promote the release of her eclectic collective of celebratory bangers, Bone of My Bones.

In case you forgot, last summer she made a splash debut at the concert for current US President Barack Obama at McCarren Park Pool (RIP) and left tongues wagging in anticipation for the return of the carnival! The wait is over next week when Ebony Bones headlines Bowery Ballroom on July 29th with my current obsession The Drums supporting the gig!

Bowery has been dry in recent months so I’m excited to finally make my return with this MUST line-up! As always, see you in the mosh pit.
